Our Commitment to Helping Local Animals

At Paws Across Pittsburgh, we understand the concerns about the need to focus on local animals, and we want to share how we are actively helping those in our immediate area:

Local Cat Intakes: From May to July, we took in 90 cats locally, with 18 being owner surrenders and 72 being outside/stray cats. We are dedicated to addressing the needs of our local feline population, ensuring they receive the care and homes they deserve.

Spay and Neuter Clinics: This year, we sponsored two spay, neuter, and vaccination clinics which served over 120 cats. The latest clinic in June helped about 50 cats. These efforts help control the local cat population and prevent the spread of diseases.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR): From May to July, we conducted 20 TNR operations, which is vital in managing the community cat population humanely and effectively.

Local Dog Support: Through our Outreach program, we have transported 68 dogs from a local shelter to a clinic to be spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. We cover all costs for these services, helping reduce the financial burden on local shelters and ensuring the health and well-being of the animals.

Intake of Local Dogs: So far this year, we have taken in 201 local dogs from owner surrenders and local shelters. This helps ensure that these pets are given a second chance in a loving home and reduces the strain on our local shelter systems.

SAFE Program: Our SAFE program has assisted 32 animals so far this year, providing vital support and resources to families and help families and their pets stay together.

Monthly Pet Pantry: We run a monthly pet pantry to help local families feed their pets. This initiative ensures that families facing financial difficulties can keep their beloved pets well-fed and healthy, reducing the likelihood of pets being surrendered due to economic hardship.

Community Commitment: Our work goes beyond just intake and adoption. We partner with local shelters, provide spay and neuter services, and run programs to help pet owners keep their animals during tough times. We also donate excess supplies to other cat rescues and support upcoming events such as the spay-a-thon for outdoor/community cats at Humane Animal Rescue on September 23rd, where a group of our volunteers will be participating.

Volunteer Efforts: All of these initiatives are made possible through the dedication and hard work of our volunteers.  Our organization is entirely volunteer-run, consisting of individuals with full-time jobs, families, and other commitments who selflessly dedicate their free time to saving animals. Their tireless efforts ensure that every animal receives the care and attention they deserve. We are incredibly proud of the work we do, both locally and more broadly, to make a difference in the lives of animals and the community.

By focusing on these initiatives, we aim to address the immediate needs of our local animal population while also supporting our broader mission to save lives wherever we can. Thank you for your understanding and support. Together, we can create a better future for all animals in need.
